OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Indian Hills hosted a special event honoring Heartland Volunteers.
The first ever Red Cross Heroes of the Heartland breakfast was held Friday morning. The event recognized several members going above and beyond giving back to the community.
Recognized citizens were nominated by people they have helped. They were given awards as a token of their appreciation.
Recipients like Dustin Briggs from the Central College Excercise Science facility, who saved the life of a man under cardiac arrest, say its all part of giving back.
I felt very honored. It's just a part of the job. I would have done it for anybody and would do it again. I take community service pretty seriously. Not only working with the Red Cross but also volunteer with our local fire departments and ambulance crew."
Organizers hope to make the Heroes of the Heartland Breakfast an annual event. KTVO is a proud sponsor of the Red Cross Heroes of the Heartland.
