OTTUMWA -- Senior citizens across America are being celebrated in the month of May.
It’s all part of Older Americans Month. In Iowa alone, more than 600,000 Iowans are age sixty and older. The first celebration was back in May of 1963. Just because a person retires doesn’t mean they stop being busy.
“Lately they’re getting more healthier,” said Joan Nydle of the Area Agency on Aging. “They’re living longer and they’re wanting to do more activities. So they’re wanting to volunteer those services to other seniors.”
Every county in Iowa will have a different time and way of celebrating the older Americans living near them.
