CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA (AP) -- Works by Grant Wood and other Iowa artists will be the theme of a new rest stop on Interstate 380 near Cedar Rapids.

The Gazette says the rest area, which is slated to open in about a year, will showcase landscapes and icons inspired by regional artists, including Wood's painting, "American Gothic."

Mark Masteller is the chief landscape architect for the Iowa Department of Transportation. He says in front of the rest area will be a freestanding gothic window, which is a key element in Wood's painting.

Wood, who died in 1942 at age 50, was born in Anamosa and spent his childhood there before moving to Cedar Rapids.
