ELDON, IOWA -- The American Gothic House Center announced Thursday that they are a recipient of an Iowa Cultural Trust Endowment Challenge Grant. The grant will allow the center to become financially self-sustaining in the future.
The grant is furnished by the Iowa Cultural Trust Endowment Challenge Grant and will be used to support the center’s operations.
Molly Moser, the administrator of the American Gothic House Center was very please with this news.
“We are very lucky to have this grant. As of now we rely on taxes to fund the center, and we are thankful for that, but in the future we would like to be self-sustaining,” said Moser.
According to Moser, the campaign is just the beginning of a long-term plan to ensure that the American Gothic House Center will be around for generations to come. Moser told KTVO that this is a permanent resource and it can be used in challenging times.
The American Gothic House Center is one of Iowa’s greatest treasures. The center is built upon the foundation from the painting American Gothic by Grant Wood. The painting is the second most parodied painting in the world, right behind the Mona Lisa.
Moser told KTVO today that the current exhibit at the center has been a great success and that more and more visitors are coming to the center. Admission to the center is free, but donations are encouraged.
