KIRKSVILLE, MO -- A 5k race at Truman State University raised money for Teach for America.
Participants registered early and paid a $10 fee to run five kilometers.
They could also choose to pay an extra $2 and run a 10k instead.
Truman service fraternity Phi Sigma Pi coordinated the race.
Service chair Katlyn Anderson said they chose a short race as a fundraiser because almost anyone can train and participate.
“You just kind of want to start off slow and maybe start off run/walking a mile and then just gradually adding on from there...if you want to compete, that is. Just try to up your time each time you go,” said Anderson.
Phi Sigma Pi raised money for Teach for America, an organization that places teachers in low income communities.
The top male and female finishers in each race received gift certificates to the Wooden Nickel in Kirksville.
It was a chilly morning but nearly 30 participants loosened up and ran the race early Sunday.
