KIRKSVILLE --  Over 100 athletes packed Pershing Arena in Kirksville for the 2011 Special Olympic spring games on Saturday morning.

The athletes competed in track and field games like running, jumping and throwing events.

Over 110 volunteers from Truman State University helped with the activities.

The theme for this years event was "We Are All In This Together"

Laura Colombo, a local student said the event has a special meaning her.

"This organization has been a part of my life for the past four years at Kirksville. I love all the athletes. I know most of them by just working with them. I am going to be a special education teacher. This has allowed me to get to know all the athletes and they can do anything like any other able bodied person," said Colombo

Even though the temperatures were a bit chilly on Saturday morning,. it did not deter the athletes. They moved outside for the track and field events at Stokes Stadium.
