KIRKSVILLE, MO --
“Fairly busy" are the words Director of Job Creation Phil Tate used to describe the current status of K-REDI, or Kirksville Regional Economic Development, Inc.
That's good news for the group, who recently lost the prospect of “Project Slice,” a food processing company who's looking at multiple states for a site. Kirksville is no longer in the running because of utility costs, but there are other possibilities on the table.
“Our prospects and leads have picked up. I don't know if it's spring and the weather, or whether it's the economy starting to get a little bit better on a national level, but we are working actively a total of four different prospects and they range in size from anywhere from 10 to 15 up to 50,” Tate said.
Tate was not able to give an update on a possible expansion to an existing manufacturer in Kirksville. The possibility of that expansion was announced at K-REDI’S annual membership meeting in February.
Although Tate could not give any new details, he says the project is still actively being pursued.
