BURLINGTON, IOWA -- A southeast Iowa man has been sentenced to spend 10 days in jail for killing the family cat and dog.
The Hawk Eye newspaper says Billy Lee Kracht, of Danville, had pleaded guilty to one count of animal torture and one of animal neglect. On Friday, Kracht was given 10 days for the animal torture, and his jail term of a year for the animal neglect was suspended.
The Des Moines County Sheriff's Office says the 39-year-old Kracht told deputies that he got upset when he found the cat out of its cage last July, so he hanged it. He also admitted fatally injuring the dog by falling on it.
Another southeast Iowa animal cruelty case will be to travel through court system on Wednesday.
At 9:30 a.m. on WednesdayNoelle Stanbridge is scheduled for a hearing at the Wapello County Courthouse. The issue will be whether Stanbridge can reclaim custoday of over a dozen animals that were seized by Ottumwa Police after a video surfaced showing her allegedly beating one of the dogs.
