State set to release more information in Stein shooting

SIGOURNEY, IOWA -- UPDATE - The press conference regarding the shooting death of Keokuk County Sheriff's deputy Eric Stein is over. KTVO's Greg Deffenbaugh was in attendance and will have a full report tonight.

The Keokuk County Sheriff's Department and state law enforcement officials offered a power point presentation that gave a detailed minute by minute account of the events that took place last Monday outside of Sigourney.

The attorney general's office says lawofficers were justified in killing a man who fatally shot a Keokuk County deputy during a gun battle at the man's home near Sigourney

Deputy Eric Stein, of What Cheer, was killed April 4 by Jeffrey Krier, who had a history of mental illness. Krier was later killed by officers during a standoff.

Officials also detailed events leading up to and during theshooting. Division of Criminal Investigation Director John Quinnsays Krier contacted the sheriff's office the day before, sayinghis wife had been kidnapped. Quinn says officials couldn'tdetermine if the woman existed.

UPDATE The Press Conference regarding the shooting of Eric Stein is set to begin any moment.

State and Keokuk County Law enforcement officials have scheduled a 1 p.m. press conference Monday to discuss the shooting death of Keokuk County Sheriff Deputy Eric Stein.

Stein was shot to death last week by Jeffrey Krier after a confrontation with Krier at a home southwest of Sigourney.

Krier was shot and kill by law enforcement.

Sigourney, IOWA --- The Iowa Department of Public Safety, Keokuk County Sherriff’s Office, Iowa Attorney General’s Office, and the Keokuk County Attorney's Office are prepared to release additional details regarding the shooting incident on Monday, April 4, 2011 in Sigourney, Iowa that resulted in the deaths of Sgt. Eric Stein and Jeffrey Krier.  A press conference will be held on Monday, April 11, 2011 to release the investigative findings.
