QUEEN CITY, MO -- Following a court hearing Friday, the Schuyler County Schools Proposition C Rollback request on the ballot on Tuesday passed by the slimmest of margins.
The problem was with a ballot at one polling place. The machine would not take that particular ballot because the person voted for too many candidates in one of the races.
That person left before the problem was discovered so he or she didn't have a chance to re-vote.
The election judges spoiled the ballot, but in this case, they should have overridden the machine.
That would have counted everything on the ballot except the race that was over-voted.
In a hearing Friday in a Schuyler County courtroom, visiting Judge Rick Roberts of Clark County ruled the ballot should be counted in the races that were voted correctly on the ballot in question.
When the ballot was counted, it did contain a "yes" vote on the school issue, giving the measure a one-vote victory.
