BONAPARTE, IOWA -- Bonaparte Main Street’s Civil War Experience scheduled for June 11 and 12, 2011, will be a new event commemorating the sesquicentennial of the Civil War. Held in conjunction with this weekend experience, a whisker growing contest will be held.
Annette Spencer is organizing this event with a stress on authenticity and costume. Whiskers should reflect original styles from the Civil War years and prizes will be presented in the following categories: best of; beard, mustache, lamb chops, and goatee, worst overall facial hair, and First prize will be awarded for the best overall beard and costume representing the period.
There will be no cost to enter and no age limit, but Civil War era authenticity is preferred.
Judging will be done at the band shell in Bonaparte’s Historic Riverfront Park during the event. So . . . “Gentlemen, start your whiskers!”
