ELDON, IOWA -- Here in the Heartland's backyard, we are lucky to have the setting for one of the most parodied paintings of all time, American Gothic.
The American Gothic House is located in the quiet community of Eldon, Iowa. Administrator Molly Moser told KTVO Tuesday that the painting is the second most parodied painting in the world, only behind the Mona Lisa. The painting's home is at the Art Institute of Chicago.
This Friday, the community is invited to attend a new and special exhibit. The center will be opening up "Nan Wood Grahm: Beyond the Farmer's Daughter."
The exhibition will focus on the life of the painter, Grant Wood's sister, Nan Wood Grahm. Nan Wood Grahm is the woman in the American Gothic painting, while the man is Dr. Byron McKeeby, Wood's dentist.
"Grant Wood's sister, Nan, although she is most famous for being the American Gothic Lady, she was also an artist herself. She was married and traveled all over the world. So, she is a very interesting person in her own right," said Moser.
The new exhibit opens this Friday from 6-7 p.m. You can find more information about the American Gothic House Center here.
