MOUNT PLEASANT, IOWA --
Iowa Wesleyan College
students, staff, and community members held a forum on Tuesday to bring about an awareness of critical water issues around the globe.
A group of students conducted a research experiment regarding how the struggle for safe water affects a person’s psychology. Students survived on only 2.5 gallons of water for 3 days, using it for all their water needs, including drinking, bathing and teeth brushing. Students kept video journals of their experiences which were shown during the forum.
Jocelyn, age 6, also participated in the three day experiment with the college students. When asked what she liked the most about doing the water experiment, Jocelyn replied, “Not taking a bath!”
Many exhibits and interactive displays were also on hand to inform about water filters, dehydration and water conservation.
One dollar for each person in attendance to the forum was donated to the
Water Our Thirsty World Organization
in an effort to send water purifiers to underdeveloped nations in need of clean water sources. This year's forum had a total of over 500 attendees.
