Car strikes, kills bicyclist

WEVER, IOWA -- A southeast Iowa man was killed Wednesday evening when he was struck by a car while riding his bicycle.

Des Moines County Law Enforcement says that David Garrels, 58 of Wever was died while riding his bike on Highway 61 south of Burlington.

Garrels was traveling southbound on Hwy 61 when he was struck by a vehicle also traveling southbound.

Garrels was pronounced dead at the scene, the Des Moines County Sheriff's Office and the Iowa State Patrol are still investigating the incident.

Wever is an unincorporated town in Northeast Lee County, near the Des Moines County line.

The above story was corrected to reflect the correct day of the incident, Wednesday.
