CENTERVILLE, IOWA -- A fire ripped through a Centerville residence early Sunday evening sending one man to the hosptial in critical condition.

According to Centerville Fire Department, Lennis Parker, 53, was flown by helicopter to the burn unit at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City where he is being treated in the burn unit. As for the house, it is a total loss. It burned to the ground.

Authorities tell KTVO they received numerous calls about a house fire in the 500 block of North 7th Street, just before 7 p.m. Sunday.

Parker, the only resident of the home, was outside the house when fire crews arrived on the scene.

The fire is not considered suspicious, but it's still under investigation by the Iowa Fire Marshal's office, Centerville Fire Department and Centerville Police Department.

A spokesman from the Centerville Fire Department told KTVO investigators hope to learn more about what may have started it once they are able to speak with Parker.
