KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- With tax season in full swing, you might have noticed you haven't received a paper income tax package in the mail yet, and you won't.

The reason, because the IRS isn't  sending them in the mail this year.

"For the first time this year, the IRS is not mailing out any kind of tax packages and that's to save money and to encourage taxpayers to file electronically," said Adair County Public Library Reference Librarian Gina Rybkowski.

As this alteration sinks in, public libraries-the longtime providers of tax forms and assistance, have seen an increase flow of inquiring patrons, unaware of the policy change.

"People are coming in and are very frustrated because they are unaware of the change and in most cases don't know which forms to fill out," Rybkowksi said.

But no need to worry, the library says they can assist you.

"I can go on the internet for them," Rybkowski said. "We can go through the 179 pages of the federal tax booklet and find information they need. Some people just need a tax credit chart or something about social security and we can go online and get that form for them."

The library wants to remind people they are not certified accounts so they can not give out tax advice, but can help you decide which appropriate forms you need to fill out.
