Southeast Iowa man dies in house fire

Authorities say a Fort Madison man found unresponsive in his burning home has died.

The Hawk Eye in Burlington says firefighters found the man near a bedroom door about 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Fire Chief Joey Herren says 56-year-old Robert Rempe was taken to a hospital where he was  pronounced dead. An autopsy is pending. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
