GREEN CITY, MO --
It was a heated Tuesday night in Green City, Missouri.
Residents are fired up over an incident that resulted in the firing of two longtime city employees, and they spoke their mind at Tuesday’s meeting with the Board of Aldermen.
City Clerk Amanda Hall and Water and Wastewater Operator David Fields were given the option of resigning or being fired on January 24th over a conversation with citizen, Mary Donna Snow.
At the time of the conversation, Snow was at city hall to file for public office.
Green City residents are outraged over the firing.
“What you guys did, you went behind closed doors, you locked yourselves down and moved that here and had an attitude that was just frustrating for the members of this community. If it weren't for the district ballgame up there right now, this room would not hold the people,” said Rolf Christian, Green City Resident.
Green City citizens and former board members say the firing was not done according to the books. There seems to be no record of the vote to fire the two employees in the meeting's minutes.
David Fields, who's worked for the city for 15 years, told KTVO he just wants his job back.
Mayor Gary Billington says he'll do everything he can to make the situation right, but there's a lot of sorting out to do with the city attorney.
