KIRKSVILLE, MISSOURI -- The Adair County Humane Society is preparing for its 2011 Prevent a Litter: Spay and Neuter Initiative.
The program is designed to help pet owners pay for the expensive procedure, and cut down on the extra litters born every year.
“It is very costly,” said Missy Decker, Shelter Manager. “Some people want to be great pet owners and have that done but just simply aren't able to afford the procedure, so these are coupons/vouchers that they are giving out that are good for $50 at any vet. [And], local vets are also giving discounts on their normal pricing for spaying and neutering."
This is taking place all throughout the month of March.
The Humane Shelter has 100 vouchers to give out this year, which is 40 more than last year. They started handing out voucher Feb. 15, and they still have plenty left.
The limit is two per family, unless there are extenuating circumstances, and you can stop by the Adair County Humane Society to pick yours up.
Several private donations helped to fund this initiative, which is creating free, or very minimal-cost procedures.
