KIRKSVILLE, MO --
A committee in the Missouri House of Representatives voted on a bill concerning minimum wage this week.
Right now, the "Show-Me State" is one of the few that allow the state minimum wage to exceed the federal minimum wage. The house bill would stop that from happening.
State Representative Zachary Wyatt of Novinger voted in support of the measure, which continues on toward an eventual floor vote.
“I can truly see some other things happening with the bill that's going to help out both sides of the party because I can see where both sides are coming from, and a business can't come and tell me, especially during the hearings they couldn't tell us that they're having troubles due to minimum wage,” said Wyatt.
Wyatt says businesses have having trouble with both minimum wage and the state of the economy, two things that factor into this issue.
He says lawmakers are looking into putting a freeze on the cost-of-living allowance and coming back to it in four years after more data is collected.
Missouri voters passed the law by a wide margin back in 2006.
