NEAR NEWTOWN, MO. -- Firefighters from several departments battled a blaze at a farm owned by Premium Standard Farms late Tuesday afternoon near Newtown, Missouri in northwestern Sullivan County.

One of the three barns on the property was destroyed in the blaze.

The animals housed in the barn were killed in the fire, but there were no injuries to any employees who were working at the time the fire broke out.

PSF did not release any information on the number of hogs that died in the fire.

Two other nearby barns on the property were not damaged by the fire.

Employees used backhoes to quickly tear down hallways that connected the three barns, containing the flames to a single barn.

Firefighters from the Medicine Creek, Mercer County, Unionville and Newtown Fire Departments all responded to the blaze.
