KIRKSVILLE, MISSOURI -- Love is in the air, as Valentine's Day, "The Hallmark Holiday, "Single's Awarness Day," whatever you want to call it, quickly approaches.

If you’re stressed about getting a Valentine’s present for that special someone, imagine the job of a florist: delivering Valentine’s presents to EVERYONE’S special someones… all in one day… in these frigid temperatures!

For Eva Buck, the owner of Taylor Flowers in Downtown Kirksville, this will be her 43^rd Valentine’s Day as a florist, and she has learned a lot, as presentation, flower designs and delivery-methods have all changed a lot over the past four decades. So, what is the trend this year?

“Lots of mixed flowers; roses, but then they like mixed arrangements, carnations, daisies, poms, with a few roses added in,” said Eva.

You can also, of course, toss in a vase, candy, or stuffed animal of your choice. And, early bird doesn’t have to sleep in the doghouse, or however the saying goes.

“Ordering early really helps because last minute things are just, you know, what's available is what you can get,” said Eva.

She said she always receives a lot of calls on Valentine’s Day, but most people order early.

With these frigid temperatures a majority of the U.S. has been receiving, you might expect her flower surplus to be low, but she said it’s not. The only thing the cold has affected is her form of business. She has received many more calls, and less walk-ins.

For all of you with future florist dreams, what is it like for Eva preparing for such a major holiday like V-day?

“It takes a lot of time, a lot of preparation,” said Eva. “You need to have your things ordered early, so you don't have to wait till the last minute for things. You need to stay ahead of the game; you need to stay focused on what you're doing."
