KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- The treacherous conditions are closing down places that aren't shut down easily.
The Truman State University campus was closed at 10:30 Tuesday morning.
A few buildings like the Student Union and library stayed open until 1 p.m., but the entire campus was shut down after 5 p.m.
“We closed the campus down due to the blizzard conditions that are happening outside right now. My understanding is this is the first time this has been done since 1973, so it's not a common occurrence but it's a pretty serious storm so we want to make sure everybody's safe,” said Public Safety Director Tom Johnson.
Johnson met with Truman President Troy Paino and other campus staff Tuesday morning. They determined that conditions were just not safe for students and faculty to be out in. Food service on campus will continue as usual.
Truman will remain closed Wednesday.
