DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- A winter storm is making travel hazardous in parts of Iowa, but forecasters say the worst of the storm won't begin until later Monday.
About an inch of snow and freezing drizzle is expected to fall across northern Iowa Monday morning, but most of the snow will fall on Tuesday. The National Weather Service predicts that parts of southeast Iowa could receive as much as 18 inches of snow by Wednesday evening.
The Iowa Department of Transportation roadways map showed highways in the northwest corner of the state were completely covered with a mix of snow, ice or slush Monday morning.
Wanita Bishop works at Truck Haven in Sioux City. She says the freezing drizzle that fell made roads slick during Monday's commute, but the roads weren't too bad yet.
