KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Things are moving along this year for the Kirksville Tax Increment Finance, or TIF.

The TIF Commission has a few big ticket projects in the works this year. One of those is the South 63 Corridor Improvement project at the edge of Kirksville.

The TIF Commission is working with MoDOT on design work for improvements along Baltimore from La Harpe Street to the end of the shopping center.

"At least we'd like to see the road improvements done and the road improvements really are more sidewalk and some landscaping improvements, really to continue the sidewalks that we have done on Baltimore to continue them on south, and so I think we'll be able to maybe accomplish that this year," said City Manager Mari Macomber.

The additional one cent sales tax charged by businesses in the corridor has been in effect for a few months now, and a new retail clothing store will soon be moving into one of the store fronts behind Long John Silver's. The midwestern chain "Glik's" will be opening in March and is currently advertising for employees.

Macomber says there are currently two vacancies on the TIF Commission if you're interested in serving on a city committee. She says the only requirement is that you not own property within the TIF.
