OTTUMWA, IOWA -- The Ottumwa snow budget is really being put to use this winter.

The Ottumwa Public Works Crew has been hard at work making sure the streets are safe to travel on.

Public Works has plenty of sand, salt and Geo-melt to handle whatever Old Man Winter throws its way.

Public Works Operations Superintendent Steve Edgington estimated $70,000 has been used from the $230,000 snow budget.

"We had 500-tons of salt delivered Wednesday morning," said Edgington. "We have used nearly 500 tons, which included what we already have mixed up and ready to go right now."

The budget is in pretty good shape right now and is better than it was this time last year.
