OTTUMWA IOWA -- David Barajas Jr. has been named the new Executive Director of the Ottumwa Economic Development Corporation.  As executive director, Mr. Barajas is responsible for leading the operational and strategic efforts of the OEDC and reports to its 16 member Board of Directors.

"Over the past months, we carefully evaluated a number of talented candidates for the position, each with a variety of skill sets. David was the clear standout as he brings with him a unique blend of leadership skills and economic development experience with an excellent educational background. As executive director of OEDC, he will provide the guidance and perseverance that OEDC needs, stated Richard Gaumer, chairman OEDC."

Mr. Barajas earned a B.A. in Liberal Arts from Augustana College and an M.A. in Public Administration from Northern Illinois University. From 2000 to 2007, he worked as Director of Economic Development for the Greater Sterling Development Corporation in Sterling, IL. During his tenure, Mr. Barajas led an effort to attract a 900,000 sq. ft. distribution center for Wal-Mart Stores, an economic development project that resulted in 1000 new jobs.

Most recently Mr. Barajas was president of Freedom Bank in Sterling, IL, (pop. 15,053) where his responsibilities included the management of $79 million in assets, three branches and 15 employees. Throughout his career, David has served in public office as a city alderman and has served as a board member for several organizations including the Sterling-Rock Falls YMCA and Sterling Main Street.

Mr. Barajas and his family are looking forward to coming to Ottumwa and becoming an integral and productive part of the community.
