KIRKSVILLE, MISSOURI -- Press Release from Truman State University
Truman State University’s Department of Health and Exercise Sciences, along with the Alumni Association, are inviting everyone to join in a celebration for Jack Bowen.
Bowen has been diagnosed with a terminal illness and friends and family are coming together to celebrate the life of the longtime educator. His 42-year career included positions as a teacher, coach and administrator. In 1966, Bowen accepted a position at Truman State University where he spent a total of 34 years on the job. Among his many duties at Truman, he taught undergraduate courses, was a field supervisor for health and exercise science students and was the director of intramural recreation.
Bowen and his wife Melba are still actively involved in the Truman community, regularly attending athletic events and various University functions. They also participate in the selection of recipients for the Jack and Melba Bowen Endowed Scholarship.
“Celebrating a Lifetime of Touching Lives: A Toast to Mr. Jack Bowen,” will take place from 6:30-8 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 15 in the A.T. Still University Centennial Commons.
Organizers are requesting humorous anecdotes, fun recollections and pictures from those who know Bowen. They will be made into a memory album for Jack and Melba. Submissions can be e-mailed to Chris Lantz at clantz@truman.edu.
Donations can be directed to the Jack and Melba Bowen Scholarship at http://giving.truman.edu or sent to: Truman State University, Office of Advancement, McClain Hall 205, 100 E. Normal, Kirksville, MO 63501.
