SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — Gov. Bill Richardson says he's still reviewing documents and public comments related to a possible posthumous pardon for one of New Mexico's most famous Old West outlaws.

Richardson says he will decide whether to pardon Billy the Kid by Friday, his last day in office.

Albuquerque attorney Randi McGinn had petitioned for a pardon, contending New Mexico Territorial Gov. Lew Wallace promised one in return for the Kid's testimony in a murder case against three men.

Aside from the Kid's case, Richardson says he won't grant any other pardons or commute any other sentences before leaving office.

He says there's not enough time to fully investigate any last-minute requests. That includes one made on behalf of Carlos Fierro, an attorney who was sentenced to seven years in prison last November after being convicted of vehicular homicide.
