MACON,MO -- A local police chief gets the chance of a lifetime.  Macon Police Chief Steve Olinger recently returned from his trip to Washington, D.C. to train with the Federal Bureau of Investigations or F.B.I.

Olinger left for the two-hundred and forty-third F-B-I National Academy during the last week of September and graduated on December 10th.

He told K-T-V-O that this experience was like going back to college with a bit of boot camp thrown in.

“We still had the fitness portion, just like every academy. But, we studied several different classes.  You actually got to select the courses you could take.  I tried to select courses you could take.  I tried to select courses that weren’t always available to us here in Missouri,” said Olinger.

Chief Olinger says that he took classes ranging from fitness to managing death investigations.

He says this opportunity will make him a better officer and benefit the Macon community.

Olinger’s trip was paid for by the city of Macon.  He told us that the city’s support of his training shows how dedicated they are to making Macon a better place for everyone.

“The city has always stood behind us when it comes to training, and we’ve always tried to put our best foot forward when it comes to training our employees.  This just kind of gives you another feeling of the city is here to back us up,” said Olinger.

He told us that he’s bringing this new knowledge back to Macon officers to provide them with some new tools to use on the streets.

He told KTVO that one of the major tools he gained were the individuals he can now access.

“Hopefully I don’t have to use that networking tool, but if the situation arises…I’ve got some of the greatest officers in the United States and across the country and world that will be there to help me out,” said Olinger.
