KIRKSVILLE, MO --
Winter weather has already taken a toll on the American Red Cross blood program this year.
Numerous blood drives were canceled last week, resulting in the loss of 430 pints of blood.
Winter is already a slow time of year for blood donations.
Along with drive cancellations because of snow and ice, donors are fewer because of cold and flu season.
And with holiday planning and travel, many don't have time or forget to give blood.
The Red Cross says someone in the United States needs blood every two seconds.
If you're interested in donating, call 1-800-RED CROSS or log onto www.redcrossblood.org to schedule an appointment.
The Novinger Lions Club will be holding a blood drive Monday, December 20 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
