KIRKSVILLE, MISSOURI -- In these frigid temperatures, you may be chilled-to-the-bone, but it can also affect your cell phone… and your cell phone may not bounce back as quickly as you do.

We spoke with Verizon Wireless’ Cellular Connection in Kirksville and they gave us a few tips on keeping your cell phone damage-free.

“Temperature changes [are] the most important thing because it can cause moisture to accumulate in your phone,” said Scott Lyons, Store Manager. “When that happens, it's tough for the phone to work at its best ability.”

He suggested not leaving your cell phone in your car, and make sure you utilize a carrying case and screen-protectors.

The Cellular Connection offers a Stress-Free-Guarantee Plan, which is included in the price of your phone-purchase.

"It basically covers anything that could happen to your phone, especially in the cold weather. If it was to drop and break on the ice, we would replace it in store for like $40, so no matter how expensive your phone was, we replace it in the store for you, so it's a really good protection plan to have.”

If your phone does suffer moisture-damage, Lyons recommends a simple tip to fix it. First, take your battery out immediately if you detect any moisture, or if your phone has been left out in the cold. Place the battery and the phone, separately, into a container of uncooked rice. The container can simply be a Ziploc bag. This will draw the moisture out and allow your phone to work properly.
