OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Addition financial assistance could be on the way for flood victims in Wapello County.

Ottumwa Homeland Security and FEMA are working with a new program called AmeriCorps National Community Corps to provide financial assistance to the flood victims.

AmeriCorps NCCC has team members ready to assist flood victims.

Lynelle Diers of the Wapello County Long Term Disaster Recovery Committee said AmeriCorps NCCC has been directed to do disaster assessments.

"They are asking the individuals if they have been able to return to pre flood status", Diers said.

Rita Box and the rest of the AmeriCorps NCCC team are read to get to work.

"We're the manpower of getting all of the assessments done," Box said. "We're going house to house and assessing all of the damages and asking for any concerns that anybody has."

Case managers will be contacting everyone who applied for disaster assistance.
