MACON, MO --
A local police chief is training with one of the country’s most prestigious security agencies.
Macon Police Chief Steve Olinger is in Washington, D.C. to get additional instruction on police protection from the Federal Bureau of Investigations or F.B.I.
City Administrator Allan Muncy says it will cost the city money, but it will be a worthy investment.
“For this type of training, I think you probably get a pretty good return on your money, because we pride ourselves on trying to provide education to all of our employees when it’s available. One thing we want to do, whether it’s the fire chief or police chief or patrolman or fireman or anybody are called out to a situation to do a job, we want to make sure they’re trained for the situation,” said Muncy.
Muncy says this is a very unique experience.
“It’s really a pretty good honor to come down and do some major training in the law enforcement area.”
Muncy tells KTVO he thinks Macon will really benefit from the chief’s training.
“I’m sure there’s a lot of information he’s obtained from their prospective on things that he hasn’t picked up on other deals. I also think whenever you invest in an employee and they go to something like this, it improves their level of confidence in themselves and ability to lead the people underneath them,” Muncy explained.
Muncy is estimating that final cost for the trip to be $3,000-$4,000.
He told us that this is a special experience because the training is only offered once a year and by invitation only.
