OTTUMWA, IOWA -- An Ottumwa jail inmate who escaped custody in October has been sentenced.

As a result of a guilty plea, Richard Davis, 38, will spend five years in jail on escape and theft charges.

He received five years on each count, but they will run concurrently.

Davis was facing a variety of charges in October when he escaped from a Wapello County Sheriff's vehicle after being taken to Ottumwa Regional Medical Center.

After his escape, he broke into two homes and tried to steal a car.

The other charges were dismissed as a result of his plea deal.
