EDINA, MO -- Students from the Knox County Middle School are helping spread some holiday cheer this Thanksgiving season. Students wanted to give back to the community this month by providing less fortunate families with a Thanksgiving Dinner.
“We do various service projects but this year they wanted to do something different and our homeroom teachers are responsible for every month a different activity” said Knox County Middle School Principal Nancy Goodwin. “So Elizabeth Monroe planned the “Dimes for Dinners” and really got the Middle School students energetic about the project.”
Faculty set a goal of $200 but after everything was said and done, the students more than tripled that amount, raising $635. All of the money went towards purchasing turkeys and all the fixings for thanksgiving dinners as well as personal care items like soap and shampoo. All of the items are staying local, being donated to the Knox County Food Pantry.
“It’s so grateful to have the younger generation thinking of all the people out there and the needs of those people” said Knox County Food Pantry Manager Leon Blake. “So it’s just a good feeling to know we do have this generation out there that’s really thinking about the needs of other people.”
