(OTTUMWA, Iowa) – An Ottumwa man is sentenced for assaulting a police officer.
Clint Wesley Tuller, 23, was sentenced last Thursday to two 90-day jail terms for hitting Ottumwa Police Lt. Mike McDonough with an All-Terrain-Vehicle.
He was also fined $625 dollars.
The jail time was suspended for the two counts of Assault with a Dangerous weapon. The charges are aggravated misdemeanors.
The court said in its sentencing order released on Monday that the suspended sentence will provide the maximum benefit of rehabilitation to Tuller and should act as a deterrent to any further criminal activity.

On the morning of June 1, 2010 the Ottumwa Police Department received a report of a subject on a four wheel ATV harassing a security guard at Indian Hills Community College. Officers responded to the area and observed a subject operating an ATV at a high rate of speed. Officers followed the ATV to the Ottumwa Country Club golf course. While searching the golf course on foot an Ottumwa Police Officer observed the subject fleeing on the ATV. The officer attempted to stop the operator of the ATV. In the process of attempting the apprehension, the Ottumwa Police Officer, Lt Mike McDonough, was struck by the ATV. Lt. McDonough sustained a sprained arm.
On the morning of June 8th, 2010 the Ottumwa Police Department arrested Clint Wesley Tuller age, 23 of 15745 Eddyville Road, Ottumwa. Tuller was charged with Interference with Official Acts (Aggravated Misdemeanor), Trespass (Simple Misdemeanor), Trespass, (Serious Misdemeanor) and Aggravated Assault. Tuller was also issued traffic citations for Speeding (over 30mph), No Insurance, No Headlight, Operation without Registration, failure to Obey Stop Sign and Reckless Driving. The four wheeler used during this incident was seized for forfeiture.
