OTTUMWA, IOWA -- It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.
Dogs and cats were dressed up for the Santa Paws fundraising event at the Earl May Nursery and Garden Center.
People and pets put on their Christmas outfits to have their picture taken with good old Santa Claus.
The event is always held on the Sunday before Thanksgiving and has been going strong for eight years.
In the past, pictures have been taken of dogs, cats and even iguanas.
The money raised was donated to the Heartland Humane Society and will provide shelter to homeless animals.
Humane Society Board Member Jean Sporer has attended the event for quite some time.
Sporer hopes that more people will adopt pets and give them a good home.
"Just remember the Heartland Humane Society," Sporer said. "We always need donations, monetary or any supplies. We appreciate anything and volunteers."
