OTTUMWA, IOWA -- A southeast Iowa woman is in trouble for having 90 cats and dogs in her home.

Police said Sue Davis, 72, of Ottumwa is charged with two violations of municipal code.

All of the animals were discovered Thursday morning when the Ottumwa Police Department's animal control officer responded to a complaint of too many animals being kept on Davis' property at 525 West Rochester Street.

Authorities said they found 64 cats in cages in Davis' garage.

Twenty more cats were found inside the house.

Many of the felines were diseased and at least 13 had to be put down.

Officers said they also discovered nine dogs inside the house.

Most of the animals have been removed and placed in shelters or with other people.

Davis is charged with one count of Sanitation of Premises and one count of Number of Animals Restricted.

Both charges are misdemeanors.

Davis was released on her own recognizance.

The incident remains under investigation by the Ottumwa Police Department.
