KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Some local veterans got the chance to enjoy a special meal Thursday with some area primary students. Kirksville Primary School hosted their annual Veterans Day Lunch. Veterans stopped by the lunch room during the mid-day to dine with students.
One veteran says he’s pretty lucky to be spending the day with a special friend.
“I got a special invite from my grandson and I’m so proud to be here and join him in that celebration,” said Tom Higgins.
Higgins says that he’s proud to have served his country and still benefit from his service after all these years.
Tom told us he’s very excited about the opportunity to spend some extra time with his grandson Noah.
“It really makes me proud and it also makes me feel good about having served my country and benefit in this way, even through it’s long after my service,” said Higgins.
Higgins and all the veterans were greeted by some of the students as they came in the building and received a special gift. The walls in the school’s front foyer had some special art work and letters dedicated to the veterans.
