OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Veteran's Day came early for one Ottumwa school.

Local vets were honored at Evans Middle School's annual assembly and flag dedication.

Middle School Principal Dan Maeder was there to honor the heroes and believes his students appreciate the sacrifices many veterans have made.

"Veterans day is a day for us, as citizens to show appreciation of the gifts that freedom, and liberty that our soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines have given us over the course of our country's existence," Maeder said.

Over 20 vets attended the ceremony, including one representing World War II.
