KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Normally a two–term incumbent has pretty good odds at winning a next term. Tuesday night, political newcomer Zach Wyatt proved that theory wrong by unseating Rebecca McClanahan in a hotly contested Missouri House District 2 race.
We were at Wyatt’s victory party at the Novinger Schools.
When we arrived folks were watching every website, waiting for the results to trickle in.
A few minutes later the group got word that Wyatt did in deed win Adair County, which gave the group some cautious optimism. About ten minutes later the big news came that this political novice did unseat a two-term representative.
Wyatt told us that his work begins Wednesday morning.
“I will be in Jeff City by 10 a.m. And we will be picking out…we will be voting on our leadership. That will be my next endeavor,” said Wyatt.
Wyatt says next, he will begin to gage voter interest to understand what issues he’ll take on for the upcoming session.
“When it comes to January when that starts up, I’m going to o around and listen to all the people in the district and see what they want me to push forward. And I know from all the town halls that I’ve had, jobs is one of the big things...is the biggest thing that’s important to this district,” said Wyatt.
