LANCASTER, MO -- Schuyler County voters will have to write in one of the candidates on the ballot coming up in Tuesday’s election. As of now nobody is running for the position of county prosecutor.
“I’ve never had this happen before since I’ve been in office” said Schuyler County Clerk Bree Shaw. “If somebody wants to vote for somebody for prosecuting attorney then write in that person on the line and fill in that circle next to that line in order for it to count.”
Shaw said if a voter writes a persons name on the line and forgets to fill in the circle next to the name, their vote will not count.
“If they don’t fill anything in or fill it incorrectly it does not spoil their whole ballot, their ballot is still counted, just not for county prosecutor.”
A qualified candidate for Schuyler County Prosecutor must be 21 years of age, licensed to practice law in Missouri and must be a resident of the county for at least one year prior.
If no one is elected prosecutor it will be up to the governor’s office to appoint one.
