DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- Iowa transportation officials are reminding drivers to be watchful for treat-or-treaters this Halloween weekend.

The Iowa Department of Transportation says drivers need to scan streets and intersections for little ghosts and goblins.

According to a study over a 20-year period by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, four times the number of elementary and middle school-aged children were killed by a car or truck on Halloween when compared to all other evenings.

Iowa officials say nine pedestrians were injured from Oct. 28-31 last year. In 2008, two pedestrians were killed.
