OTTUMWA, IOWA -- There are many haunted houses taking place around the area.
KTVO’s Kisha Henry tested out the spookiness of ‘Nightmare on 3rd Street’ in the basement of Ottumwa’s City Hall.
“We started back in January, planning it and building it, so it should be a really good scare,” said Lynn Diveley, Ottumwa Law Center Records Clerk and ‘Nightmare on 3rd Street’ organizer.
‘Nightmare on 3rd Street’ will continue Oct. 29 – 30, from six p.m. – midnight. Admission is $6.
The reason for this event is to raise money for the Ottumwa Police Department to purchase t-shirts, books and other supplies for their fifth-grade D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program and their seventh-grade G.R.E.A.T. (Gang Resistance Education and Training) program.
“It just tells them about the pressures they may face as far as joining gangs or using drugs and trying to avoid violence,” said Brandon Gravett, D.A.R.E. and Evidence Officer for the Ottumwa Police Department. “That's just what we try to teach them...ways to say no and ways to keep away from joining gangs and doing drugs.”
“This year we don't have a theme, so there's just a real big variety,” said Diveley. “There [are] some people that are scared of some things and others who are scared of others, so I think we'll hit on everybody.”
..And don’t worry, if you get scared, there’s a chicken exit.
