KIRKSVILLE, MO --
Those appearing on the Adair County general election ballot faced off in a candidate forum Tuesday night put on by the Kirksville Area Chamber of Commerce.
Candidates running for Adair County Commissioner, Associate Circuit Judge, District 2 State Representative, and the 18 District Senate seat had a chance to share their opinions before a full room of people at the El Kadir Shrine Club.
A hotly contested race is that between incumbent State Representative Rebecca McClanahan and opponent Zachary Wyatt.
Wyatt believes this election comes down to conservative versus liberal values.
On the other hand, McClanahan says experience is what counts.
“If you believe in a fiscally sound government, smaller government, and also a moral, strong character going to represent you down in Jefferson City, then you need to vote for me,” said Wyatt.
“I think experience is critical and I would say that life experience is critical and now with my four years of experience in the legislature, that's critical to making choices and doing things that'll be effective,” said McClanahan.
Those running for various offices answered questions concerning the big issues, like budgets, education, and health care.
The general election is November 2.
