KIRKSVILLE, MO --

Animals at the Adair County Humane Society have a nicer place to live thanks to this year's class of the Kirksville Leadership Institute.

Class members have spent the last few months working on landscaping and other improvements at the shelter.

With help and donations from Home Depot, KLI completed a number of projects like new flower beds, benches, and signs just to name a few.

“This is something that even makes us feel good pulling in every morning and everybody hopefully coming to the shelter, just an improved attitude, that it is a happier place, but yes, it was very emotional, they did a lot of work, it was a lot of effort on their part and we just can't even think them enough. We were so excited to see all of the improvements,” said Missy Decker, Shelter Manager.

Decker says the dogs especially love the quirky new fire hydrants.

KLI members also painted the fence outside the humane society, and arranged to have a gazebo placed on the property in the near future.
