Teen in custody after KHS on lockdown

KIRKSVILLE, MISSOURI -- Kirksville Police Officers were notified of a distraught 16-year-old high school student threatening to harm themself in a classroom at the Kirksville High School Tuesday morning. The incident happened around 11:20.
 
The student was armed with a pair of scissors and a razor blade. 

The classroom, and one nearby were evacuated. The school was placed on hold status.

School Resource Officer Sara Holzmeier, an advanced trained negotiator, was able to talk with the subject and convinced them to abandon their weapons and surrender.

No one was hurt in the incident.

Due to the age of the individual involved, no additional information is being released.

“This successful outcome was a great example of collaboration between the police and school officials,” said Kirksville Police Chief Jim Hughes.
