(OTTUMWA, Iowa) - Bedbugs are back in the City of Bridges.
The Ottumwa Health Department confirmed on Tuesday that bedbugs have been found at the Stardust Motel on the city's east side.
Four rooms at the motel were found to be infected. Those rooms have been evacuated and pest control has been called in.
Ottumwa Health Inspector Jody Gates said that the owners of the motel have been very cooperative.
Gates said the public should not be to judgmental about any public or private building that has a bedbug problems.
“It’s best to try to control them everywhere and I can’t quite envision people wanting to keep bed bugs, they are so irritating. Some people get frustrated, they don’t know how to get rid of them or they believe they have taken all the steps they need to get rid of them," Gates said.
Gates added that she has been on the job 21 years and that only recently have the bedbugs become a problem.
In the past, lice and fleas were the biggest concern and that they are comparatively easy to get rid of.
