OTTUMWA, IOWA -- It’s officially October in Ottumwa, and that means chilly weather, pumpkins, Halloween, and…..Oktoberfest!
People lined the streets, setting up chairs and saving spots hours before Saturday’s parade even started.
“My grandson is marching with the Winfield Mt. Union Marching Band,” said Cathy Eaton.
“We’re here at the parade to catch candy!” yelled three little girls.
“I’ve been coming to the parade for probably 30 years and I love seeing the marching bands,” said Angela Shepherd. “It’s my favorite.”
It must have been Angela’s lucky day because as soon as the parade started, there were marching bands galore.
Also involved in the festivities were floats, people in costumes throwing candy and putting on shows, vendors selling food and toys, and even some pets.
Oktoberfest continues through Sunday, Oct. 3, with free admission to the tent, where the carnival will be open and bratwursts will be served.
